As for Vitamin K, it is one of the fat-soluble vitamins. There are several forms of vitamin K, with the most important being vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and vitamin K2 (menaquinone, MK). Intestinal bacteria convert Vitamin K1 to K2. Their main difference is that K1 is found in green leafy vegetables while K2 is found in foods of animal origin.
Vitamin K contributes to the normal coagulation of the blood and to the maintenance of the normal state of the bones. *
In terms of its function in bones, Vitamin K acts as a "traffic warden" for calcium. That is, it determines the movement of calcium to the bones. This reduces the deposition of calcium in the blood vessels and prevents any cardiovascular diseases.
Contraindications
It is not indicated for people taking anticoagulants such as warfarin (Coumadin®) or heparin.
Side effectsTaking Vitamin K in very high doses may cause cyanosis, hypotension, dizziness and itching.
CautionsConsult your doctor if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, taking medication or have any health problems. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Keep in a cool and dry environment.
