Digestive discomfort is often felt after certain meals and, when finishing eating, abdominal pain, bloating and distention, nausea, noises and bowel movements, even diarrhea, are felt. It is not always easy to identify the foods that cause these discomforts.
The accelerated pace of life and the type of diet rich in sugars and processed foods and poor in plant foods, facilitates a change in our colonic microbiota that favors these digestive discomforts. In addition, there are food intolerances, such as non-celiac gluten sensitivity, lactose intolerance, fructans and galactans, the frequency of which is increasing in the population, as well as other very common problems such as irritable bowel syndrome.
Tolerase® L is a proprietary lactase or β-galactosidase enzyme from the fungus Aspergillus oryzae. This enzyme breaks down the disaccharide lactose (milk sugar) into its two monosaccharides: glucose + galactose.
The enzyme alpha-galactosidase helps break down the oligosaccharides fructans and galactans from certain vegetables, cereals, and legumes in the small intestine into fructose and galactose monosaccharides, respectively.
