Multi-Guard® Iron Free is a specialized multivitamin designed to meet the nutritional needs of individuals for whom iron and iodine intake is not recommended.
The reasons for avoiding iron include a wide spectrum ranging from reduced nutritional needs (e.g. postmenopausal women and men > 50 years of age), to individuals who experience gastrointestinal disorders after taking iron or suffer from iron metabolism disorders (iron overload).
Despite the lack of iron and iodine, Multi-Guard® Iron Free is a complete vitamin and trace element formula, as it provides 22 micronutrients, at clinically adequate levels. Among these, special emphasis was placed on B vitamins that contribute to the normal functioning of metabolic processes aimed at energy production and on vitamins C, A, D and zinc that contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system.
In addition, Multi-Guard® Iron Free contains 2 of the most important carotenoids for human health, lutein and zeaxanthin. Carotenoids are natural pigments with a similar structure and activity to that of vitamin A. They are essentially the molecules that give the yellow, orange and red colors to the majority of plant foods (fruits and vegetables). Both lutein and zeaxanthin play an important role in eye health*, as they are found in high concentrations in the macula of the retina.
