Nausea (Latin nausea, from Greek ναυσία - nausia,[1] "ναυτία" - nautia, motion sickness", "feeling sick or queasy"[2]) is a sensation of unease and discomfort in the upper stomach with an involuntary urge to vomit.[3] It occasionally precedes vomiting, but a person can have nausea without vomiting. When prolonged, it is a debilitating symptom.[4] Nausea is a non-specific symptom, which means that it has many possible causes. Some common causes of nausea aremotion sickness, dizziness, migraine, fainting, gastroenteritis (stomach infection) or food poisoning. Nausea is a side effect of many medications including chemotherapy, nauseants or morning sickness in early pregnancy. Nausea may also be caused by anxiety, disgust and depression.

The word nausea is from Greek ναῦς - naus, "ship"; ναυσία started as meaning "seasickness".

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) refers to physical and emotional symptoms that occur in the one to two weeks before a woman's period. Symptoms often vary between women and resolve around the start of bleeding. Common symptoms include acne, tender breasts, bloating, feeling tired, irritability, and mood changes. Often symptoms are present for around six days. A woman's pattern of symptoms may change over time.

Motion sickness is a term that describes an unpleasant combination of symptoms, such as dizziness, nausea and vomiting, that can occur when you're travelling.

It’s also sometimes known as travel sickness, seasickness, car sickness or air sickness.

Motion sickness is also more common in children aged 3 to 12. After this age, most teenagers grow out of the condition.

Pregnancy Morning Sickness

Nausea is one of the most common symptoms of pregnancy, with or without vomiting. It most commonly occurs between weeks 5 and 18, and symptoms are usually at their worst around week 9.

Although pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting are often called “morning sickness,” it can arise at any time of day and it occurs for 70 percent of pregnant women. Some may fell a slight dizziness in the morning while others may feel bad all day long and nausea in the presence of food or other odors.

In reality, nausea and vomiting may be an indication of the change in hormonal levels.

Even though the exact causes for nausea during pregnancy are not established to this day, there are indications that higher hormonal levels of b-chorionic and hyper secretion of gastric fluid along intensified smell are responsible.

At about 3 months the body has adjusted to the higher hormonal levels and nausea stops

Gastroenteritis

Infection by a virus or bacteria and parasites in our intestinal system is called gastroenteritis.

Main symptoms are nausea, vomiting, pain in abdomen area and  diarrhea.

These symptoms may persist for a few days and one of the main strains is dehydration especially in young children and elder people.

Emecalm can assist the treatment of gastroenteritis, and it is safe to be used by children over 2 years who suffer from frequent problems of the sort.

Hangover

is the experience of various unpleasant physiological and psychological effects following consumption of ethanol, which can last for more than 24 hours. Typical symptoms of a hangover may include headache, drowsiness, concentration problems, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, gastrointestinal distress, absence of hunger, sweating, nausea, hyper-excitability and anxiety.[1]

While the causes of a hangover are still poorly understood,[2] several factors are known to be involved including acetaldehyde accumulation, changes in the immune system and glucose metabolism, dehydration, metabolic acidosis, disturbed prostaglandin synthesis, increased cardiac output, vasodilation, sleep deprivation and malnutrition.

Beverage-specific effects of additives or by-products such as congeners also play an important role.[1] The symptoms occur typically after the intoxicating effect of the alcohol begins to wear off, generally the morning after a night of heavy drinking.[3]

Anxiety

Anxiety is an emotion characterized by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil, often accompanied by nervous behavior, such as pacing back and forth, somatic complaints, and rumination.

Anxiety occurs not only in adults but also to children and during puberty. Girls are twice as prone as boys to suffer some sort of anxiety disorder.

Fear of exams, anxiety to “fit in” and be accepted contribute to the anxiety of children and adolescents.

Physical symptoms of anxiety may vary a lot. They may be focused in the area of the head,(  headache, dizziness, vertigo, migrane) , in the stomach (nausea, vomiting, indigestion, pain ), the skin (psoriasis, eczema, allergies) and the neck area with muscular pain.

The stomach especially is highly affected by fear anxiety, worries, guilt…This is why it is quite common, hard feeling present on the gastrointestinal system with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, indigestion and pain. The feelings center in the brain is directly connected to the stomach, creating many times nausea and vomiting feelings.

Note that nausea is very common symptom in students during exam periods.

Emecalm can help relieve the symptoms of nausea and vomiting in cases of anxiety stress and intense emotions.
