Sunburn and how to deal with it!
We all love summer, the sea, and sunbathing but, plenty of times, we spend carelessly too many hours under the sun, and forget that its radiance can be fatal for our skin if we fail to protect ourselves under umbrellas, with frequent use of sunscreens. Sunburn lurks and its effects can spoil our holiday or – even worse - cause skin cancer!
Sunburn is the damage caused to skin tissue, due to excessive exposure to the sun and specifically to UVB radiation. Depending on the duration of exposure, is the severity of the skin damage.
Initially, the skin reddens strongly and hurts, while gradually edemas may develop, with fluid-filled blisters, which are particularly painful. As things get worse, sunburn can be accompanied by dehydration, confusion, fever, chills, nausea, headache, a tendency to faint, etc. This is considered a most serious case for which you should immediately visit a doctor or your nearest hospital.
I'm sunburned! What do I do?
Unfortunately, it is not difficult at all, to get burned under the scorching sun, even if you are persistent in the frequent use of sunscreen or if you have found shelter under the beach umbrella. If that happens, then you need to take care of relieving the skin from stretching and dehydration, reduce inflammation and help the epidermis to regenerate. So, if you feel something goes wrong, follow the tips below.
Get away from the sun
If your skin color takes on an intense pink hue and turns white wherever you touch it with your finger, immediately move away from the sun and look for a shady place. At this point, your sunscreen cannot protect you anymore. Cover the sunburned areas and do not go out in the sun again until your skin returns to its normal condition. Wear cotton clothes that let the skin breathe.
Cool your skin
As heat hides behind the skin's inflammation, cooling off your skin makes the inflammatory reaction subside, and the upcoming damage decreases. Fill a tub with cool water and stay inside for 20 minutes. Do not use any soap that can irritate the skin and try not to rub your skin with the towel but dry it with gentle movements.
Apply green tea compresses
Brew green tea for a few minutes, place the liquid in the refrigerator for half an hour, and then apply the compresses with the tea on your burned skin. Tea's rich antioxidants ingredients will "attack" free radicals released into the skin due to solar exposure.
Moisturize your skin
Sunburn creates a need for the skin to be hydrated. Choose a moisturizer or lotion that suits your skin, with glycerin, chamomile, or aloe, and with no artificial fragrances that can irritate the damaged territory. Use your cream several times during the day and, by all means, immediately after the shower, to "lock" the moisture.
Keep your body hydrated
At the same time, you must hydrate your body as well. Do not neglect to drink lots of water and consume lots of fruits and vegetables. Avoid alcohol consumption that contributes to dehydration of the body.
Use an analgesic
A painkiller can fight inflammation and pain and relieves you.
Protect your skin
Sunburn sometimes is accompanied by hurtful blisters that are very annoying. It is necessary not to try to open them because there is a risk, they will become infected and cause inflammation. Let them "break" and retreat on their own.
What products to use?
It is of high risk to have sunburn while on vacation, however careful you are. Having that said, you must keep in mind that, as carefully as you choose your sunscreens, so carefully you must also choose your aftersun products. Trust soothing-moisturizing emulsions, that replenish the lost moisture and restore the elasticity of the skin.
