Keratin, an ally for healthy and beautiful hair

Keratin, an ally for healthy and beautiful hair

Keratin is a vital substance for hair's health, a natural ally that contributes to the care and reconstruction of hair, especially when it is stressed by dyes, heat, styling, and even environmental pollution.

Keratin is a protein found in the composition of human hair, with a high content of sulfur and cystine, an amino acid thanks to which the hair is durable and elastic. In fact, 85% of our hair consists mainly of keratin, which supports strong hair growth. Keratin is found as an essential protective substance in the human body - not only in the hair but also in the skin and nails.

Thus, hair that is regularly affected by exogenous factors, such as hair dryers, dyes, styling, or the environment, weakens, wears out, and breaks as keratin fall to low levels and hair weakens, dehydrate, and frizz.

Based on this finding, hair specialists developed new keratin treatment methods that can be applied in hairdressing salons - using specialized products – or at home-using special remedies.

What is Keratin Therapy?

The keratin treatment applied in hairdressing salons is actually a treatment that complements the lost keratin of the hair with a substance that has in its composition a large content of keratin, trace elements, and vitamins that penetrate the hair structure, shield it, moisturize it, smooth it, leaving the hair healthier and shinier.

At the same time, because of deep hydration, the hair unfrizz and looks straighter and softer – in fact, this "collateral benefit" of hair straightening, increased keratin's treatment popularity among women who, with this method, acquired well-combed and straight hair for a long time. Straightening is because keratin is thermoactive, and as the hair dries, it gets smoother and straightened at 80%.

Keratin treatments usually last from 3 to 5 months, depending on the type of hair, when the hair gradually returns to its original state, can be done at any time of the year and concerns both women and men who want to get healthy, strong and straight hair without frizz.

There are different types of keratin therapies that a person can choose individually, according to its own hair needs. Based on the original treatment known as Brazilian Keratin, you can choose between treatments enriched with collagen, gold filings, whey proteins, diamond filings, where they all promise hydration, shine, elasticity, and hair straightening.

It should be noted that some older versions of keratins contained harmful ingredients (formaldehyde) and have been abolished, however, it is advisable to check in the salon where the application will be carried out that the treatment is certified by the FDA, as some are still marketed.

After applying the remedy, depending on the type chosen, the hair can be bathed either immediately, or after 24 or 72 hours, with specialized products – shampoos, conditioner, masks – without sulfates, which do not make much foam and are not aggressive towards the hair.

There are also keratin products

Simultaneously, with - or even independently of-the keratin treatment applied at the hairdresser, you can find on the market hair care products that are enriched with keratin protein and other substances that nourish and rebuild hair. These are products that are safe and easy to use, that you can apply yourself at home and, just as importantly, are affordable. Most important though is that, when used properly, they can work wonders with your hair!

The best products (shampoos, conditioners, masks) have a low content of sulfates, which can damage the hair, while on the contrary, they contain ingredients such as soy protein, olive oil, and hydrolyzed keratin.

As for your options? You can find many, worthwhile products on the market from many cosmetology brands, depending on your hair needs. We searched and recommend some of them:

"Keratin Vitality, strength & Hair Loss protection Shampoo" and "Keratin Vitality repair & Protection conditioning cream" are LORVENN's proposal for active keratin that contributes to the strengthening and toning of hair, the protection against hair loss, the rejuvenation of hair and skin and the firmness and shine of hair.

ARGANICARE’ s "Hair strengthening keratin conditioner" and "Keratin Hair serum" promise enhanced hair care to those that have been damaged by thermal or chemical treatment, restructuring the firmness, keeping the hair smooth and straight. The rich composition contains a powerful blend of nourishing and emollient ingredients that perfectly suits straightened hair, maintain their texture, providing incredible softness, ease of management, and shine.

A dynamic restorative combination with keratin and hyaluronate is proposed by COLLISTAR with "Fix-Active Spray" and "Hair Mask", which benefits brittle, damaged hair, by sealing the cuticle's scales, trapping the active ingredients inside, balancing the Ph, and making styling easier and hair healthier for longer.

Finally, "Goat’s Milk Shampoo" and "Goat’s Milk Hair Mask" with keratin by ZIAJA, combine keratin with goat's milk proteins, offering mild cleansing of hair and scalp, restructuring, elasticity, and volume in the hair, leaving the hair smooth and soft, with shine and health.
