Electric toothbrush, a "hyper-weapon" of oral health!

Electric toothbrush, a hyper-weapon of oral health!

Electric toothbrushes are not just a modern gadget, it's the new "hyper-weaponfor the day-to-day care of the oral hygiene and the emergence of our most dazzling smile!

Truth is that the care of our teeth relies primarily on our consistency and conscientiousness, with toothbrushes being the most valuable tool for the protection of our oral hygiene.

That's why modern electric toothbrushes are becoming very popular: they make brushing teeth more fun for young children or less boring for adults who experience this routine as a chore, they facilitate people with mobility problems, but the most important thing is that the technologies they incorporate, make the "dirty" work and let us come out clean!

What to pay attention to, when choosing the electric toothbrush that suits us?

  • Size and shape

Toothbrush should fit comfortless into our mouth so that we can reach and clean all areas correctly.

  • Types of heads

A variety of heads are available on the market, that suits every need for soft or moderate hardness of the fibers. Alternatively, we will find models for sensitive teeth, for better whitening, for orthodontic braces, etc. We just choose which type suits us best!

  • Ergonomic handle

Of particular importance is that the toothbrush we choose has a handle made of soft rubber that absorbs vibrations and fits anatomically like a "glove" on our hand.

  •  Brushing programs

The more expensive electric toothbrushes give us the option of different brushing programs, i.e., gentle brushing if our teeth are sensitive, deep cleaning, or "whitening" for better removal of stains from the teeth. On the other hand, more economic models usually given the choice to regulate the speed of rotation from slow to fast.

  • Autonomy-battery life

We check the autonomy, that is, the time the toothbrush battery can withstand until it needs recharging. The most efficient models last up to 100 minutes (about 50 brushes), while the most economical ones need recharging at 20 brushes.

  •  Timer

Several electric toothbrushes have a built-in timer that notifies the user by sound or visual signal, when the 2 minutes of brushing is completed, which is the recommended time by dentists.

  • Pressure sensors

One of the features of modern devices is that we do not need to put pressure with the toothbrush head on the gums. In fact, because excessive force can cause damage, some toothbrushes, thanks to a pressure sensor, inform the user when it exerts more pressure than normalreduce the rate of rotation, or even interrupt their operation!

In either way, if we intend to use the electric toothbrush for a long time, it is worth investing money for its purchase (simple machines start at 18 euros and reach up to 250 euros).

Finally, it goes without saying that the toothbrush we choose should be marked that guarantees its safe use on the teeth and gums.

What is the correct use of the electric toothbrush?

Not surprisingly the use of the electric toothbrush is similar to the old-fashioned one we all know, with only some features and instructions to follow for its proper operation.

  1. Moisten the toothbrush head lightly and place a small amount of toothpaste (as much as a pea) in the center.
  2. Place the toothbrush head in a horizontal position on the outer side of the teeth, with the head resting on the entire tooth and slightly touching the gum at the point that joins with the tooth.
  3. Place the electric toothbrush inside the mouth and then turn it on; otherwise, with the rotation, the toothpaste will end up on our clothes!
  4. Brush each tooth for about 1.5 to 2 seconds in order to remove sufficiently the dental plaque.

When we brush the molars, slightly tilt the brush head to the right – left, so you can clean better the interdental spaces.

We follow the same procedure for the inner side of the teeth. We insist a little more on the front lower teeth where there is an increased risk of plaque appearance.

We conclude by brushing the chewing surface of the teeth.

That's it! A correct brushing techniquemethodicality and the steady, slow movements are the secrets to proper cleaning of our teeth.

How to take care of our electric toothbrush?

We rinse the toothbrush head thoroughly under running water after use, to remove any remaining toothpaste.

Then, we shake to remove excess water and store it in an upright position, in a ventilated - but protected from germs – space.

We make sure that the toothbrush is kept separate from those of the rest of the family to avoid cross-contamination. It is understood that each member of the family has his own toothbrush.

We change the head every three months or earlier if signs of wear appear.
