Τα ωμέγα-3 λιπαρά οξέα έχουν σύμφωνα με πολυάριθμες μελέτες πολλαπλά οφέλη σε πολλούς τομείς της ανθρώπινης υγείας. Έχει αποδειχθεί ότι τα ωμέγα-3 συμβάλλουν στη ρύθμιση των επιπέδων της χοληστερίνης και των τριγλυκεριδίων, τη διατήρηση της ελαστικότητας των τοιχωμάτων των αρτηριών και τη φυσιολογική αρτηριακή πίεση, μπορούν επομένως να συνεισφέρουν στην υγεία της καρδιάς. Επίσης, παίζουν σημαντικό ρόλο στη λειτουργία του εγκεφάλου και επηρεάζουν τη συμπεριφορά και την ικανότητα συγκέντρωσης σε παιδιά και ενήλικες.
